Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
