Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
